Hello,

I'm new to this forum so sorry if this has been asked before but I found no reference in the search. I'd like to ask which caps you would recommend for a passive EQ? I've seen some people using orange drops which I find give a smooth mellowish sound. I tried Wima MKP but they are too harsh for my ears. I hear Wima MKS are softer, anybody tried those? I like Audyn Caps MKP QS 400/600V from www.intertechnik.de which are very musical indeed but only available from 0.1µF upwards. And how about silver micas for smaller values?

Which caps were used in the original Pultec or Neve circuits?

Best regards
Michael

Try metallized polyester or mylar. Also, try higher voltage ones. If you get expensive, you could have a look at NOS paper in oil. never tried oil in a passive EQ, but I´m sure it would give you more of what you are looking for.

I like silver mica for small values but there are a few different types. I've heard the more expensive ones sound better. I suspect you'll have to audition caps to find what YOU like ......
