I wanted to build a PM670 vari mu, but pcb's are hard to find since it's discontinued.

what do you guys think is the best varimu design around here for mastering?
i'd like to have adjustable attack/release and some hpf in the sidechain.

Cheers!

I can sell you a set of pcbs for the analag PM670 if you are interested. I won't ever find the time to build it anyway...

I dont know if Vari Mu compressors are used for mastering at all.

I've seen NTP compressors, API2500 , different re-incarnations of the SSL Bus compressor-

They are used in mastering. Way back in time nearly everything mastered in Germany went through Siemens/TAB U73 compressors. Nowadays I see  Manley Vari Mu, Gyraf GX, Thermionic Culture, Fairman, etc Vari Mus in mastering racks.

I have built a pm670 with some of Kingston's M670 mods and cinemag input transformers and love it for mastering

Though it is not DIY, i really recommend trying out the tegeler vtc. I use it on my mixbus and i love what it does to the high end and to the bass. Besides that it is quite affordable!
