Will this "T-Pad" for the 1176 Rev D Clone Work Fi

10dB attenuation doesn't seem like an awful lot for the input of a compressor, but it looks sweet, would be perfect for the output on a V72 or an Altec or something like that.

If you used that you'd also need some additional switchable steps; maybe several 10 dB steps. Too complex and too much $.

Sure, if you like using a giant $100+ collectible attenuator on an 1176. Wasn't the group buy price for new units about $30?

You could also use a Daven ladder, which would be much cheaper than a Daven T.

Highly abnormal; ignorant seller. Lucky. I have no problem getting upwards of $300 for pairs of those without dial plate or knob. In fact, I'd resell that one and buy a modern type that will fit easily. And a case of beer, and put some gas in the car, and a case to put the 1176 into. :thumb:

Pardon the NOOB question (again, sorry gang) but where can one get a ~$30 (or $40 non-group-buy) attenuator??
You guys always seem to know where the deals are on new items.
I've always taken the vintage craze with a grain of salt: if they could do it then, then we certainly could do it now. Ususally

We could certainly do it in most cases, but almost no one would pay for it. Buy a currently manufactured Shallco (Daven) 600 ohm stepped T like this and it will fall above $300, maybe above $400. They have definitely cheapened the quality of construction and materials used in the design over the last 70 years.

In all honesty, I'm not trying to be a jerk, but I've gotten more 'coy' answers here than anywhere. I'm asking about affordable attenuators and I get directed to $400 ones. What gives?? I thought this was about sharing information. If you can help, please do so. I will help when I can. I have been doing tube equipment for ~20 years, but am a bit new to audio/studio circuits.

No secret handshake, just natural hesitation to post hard won experience and knowledge for all to profit by. But you will find that is not the rule, there is no consistency, everyone decides for themselves how freely they share.

The one thing you will see consistently is the same questions being asked again and again, which over time makes some forum veterans reticent. After repeating yourself a few times, "use the search function" becomes a reflex.

As for attenuators, I missed the group buy as well, so I bought a pair of these Altec attenuators for $50 ea. They appear to be the right thing, but I have yet to test them out:

I believe those are ladders, but will still do the job.
