I would be very wary of buying any 238 right now, especially from sellers who offer no returns. The 238 often suffers from a capstan servo problem that mean the speed often wanders or is just plain wrong. I have two 238 decks and both have this problem. The fix seems to be recapping the servo PCB (replacing SMT electrolytics with leaded ones) but I have not found the time to fix either of mine. It is a pity because they are really well built machines with a performance that far exceeds that of the portastudio versions.
