STA LEVEL - TURRET BOARS LAYOUT

Hi

I based it on the 1960 schematic. I simply take the schematic and placed the component on a turret board. This is how I design the layout

Oh and concerning the expensive tube, I know their is a "mod" that consist of replacing this tube by 2 other, far less expensive. I'll dig it soon to find any info and let you know

The 6386 tube can be replace by 2x 6BJ6. here is a what I found on the internet. I haven't testing it, though, and it will have to be re-biased. JJ made brand new 6386 tube, but they cost something like 120.00 USD.

Buy a bunch of 6BJ6, build an adapter, sort out a match, you get to $120 really quickly while spending a lot of time.  I think it makes sense for production runs, maybe not individual builds.  A random pair of 6BJ6 seemed to work 'ok', but not great, in a stalevel build that passed through here.

Yup, I agree with you. Stay with the 6386. Simplest solution
