The real cost is not in registering domains, it is in hosting the data and paying for the required bandwisth. That will be cosiderably more than $350 a year.

By far the greatest cost is storage.

All those schematics and pdfs keep on costing. And the pile keeps growing...

That's why I am super thankful GroupDIY still exists. Awesome place, awesome people, TONS of knowledge happily shared. It's one of the best things that happened to me on the internet in the last 15 years. I'm in love with this board.
I cannot thank the moderators and admins enough... this place is a gold mine.

BTW I would suggest to our Admin and Moderator staff to consider a service called CleanTalk.

Your spam registrations will drop to near zero.
Thanks but... I have been using cleantalk to double check new member applications for a while and IMO it generates too many false positives. I have a multiple page thread in the admin area tracking signups that passed the forum screener but were flagged by cleantalk as spammers or worse (brute force, etc). Many of these red flags were in distant foriegn countries. My suspicion is that they are on IPs shared with actual bad actors. So far none of these flagged accounts have behaved badly. While some members with clean sheets still pop up from time to time with spam.

The embedded forum screener catches multiple attempts daily from known bad actors. It appears that groupbuilder has their act together in this regard, a benefit from managing multiple fora.

Anybody who has been around for a while remembers how bad it "was" here with russian porn spammers in years past. I do still see the random term paper pimp.

Welp a dev or two have solicited me to beta test their plugins. which I am always happy to do. But that's about it!

Huh?

At $0.023/GB/month? That's. 2.3 cents per GB per month.
(Google "standard" cloud storage rate for US)

I don't think so.

The 452 pdfs I host is about 1.5 GB.
If this site had 10, 100 or 1000 times the number of pdfs the storage would still be chump change.

I recall seeing 1 TB of cloud available for $4.12/month.
