Interchange ability of Bc184C with Bc549C ??

does anyone know if there is a real world difference between BC549c and BC184C ,(  both NPN with similar specs/HFE  )  and BC559C and BC214 , both PNP with similar specs and HFE.

Unless i'm missing something these things are interchangeable.

The original TG did not use BC184s and BC214s yet these are now used in the Chandler Clone.

Is there something magical about these transistors?

Probably not. 

More likely a question of source, availabity and cost. 

If you could give a bit more background to your question it might spur more discussion.  Like, what were the transistors in the original which you refer to but didn't identify?  Why are you asking the question?  Where did you get the idea of using the 549?  Etc.
