What is a good resource for basic electronics for a novice? Is there a good book on basic circuits? I'm wanting to build a microphone kit. Thank you.

A lot of people here would probably recommend the Art of Electronics by Horowitz and Hill. That is a great book.
Another option however is to look for an old edition of a college textbook that can be had cheaply.
My circuits class used principles and applications of electrical engineering 2nd edition

My pleasure, Mike.
Some of the longtime members here refer to it when basic microphone-related questions are asked.
The problem is it was never turned into a sticky, so you really have to look for it.
