Another idea/option for an 8amp PSU is a pass transistor design. I found a schematic with lm317/337 and bdx53c/5The problem the overcurrent protection does not work anymore in case of short-circuit.

Sometimes i try different ideas, and get back to the original...
Another one... what if i replace the pass transistors with an Lm338 for both sides +/-V? So, lm317/337as regulators, and LM338 as pass transistor....
