I'm just getting caught up on this thread. I hope I don't ask any stupid questions. Yikes. This is fantastic. You guys need to take the whole pill each morning. Stop breaking them in half. Personally, I am interested in just PCB sets. Yes, I will buy an entire rack kit with metal (or two). But just the PCB's is plenty for me. Are those DB-25 to IDC ribbon cable breakout boards I spy sitting there? I'll take 10 of those boards alone. Those are so handy. Really, really nice work here Volker. +/-24vdc power supply boards. Very cool. +/-16vdc isn't always good enough. Need more voltage. Voltage good. Homer like 24vdc. I'm setting a reminder for myself to check in on this project in the near future. Thanks, DANA.

Forgot to ask..... Who is going to design the summing amp card? I will lay down new "traces" myself, connecting up to unused pins on the EDAC's (assuming there are unused pins). Eight preamps summing into one 8x2 bus card..... Oh yeah..... That's the ticket, baby. No hard left right. Must have pans. DW.

Yeah right i could use a simple mixer , passive even  [ guess i could do that myself ]
could be done by patching in'n'out the back but is there extra pins on to keep it on the backplane ?

great simple [ maybe  ] idea ,thanks

So far i've got a rough price of 70.00 Can for the metal work
but i don't think that's the quantity discount price yet

Any news?
yes - good ones ;D
we might have a distributor for the US stocking all the connectors too

there are unused traces. I could add some footprints for summing resistors there :-\
but this would be hard left / right panning ...
I don't think I will add this

When you say stocking all the connectors what exactly do you mean?
I believe the conectors are available from Digikey or Mouser (US)

i'd be nice if you could have a central distribution point in the US where all orders get sent to and then resent to the people that ordered in US and canada.

the central distribution is in planning stage.
for the connectors I believed this too when I was designing the boards.
knowing now Digikey's stock at Edacs is low, and I'm still waiting for the Neutrik female connectors ...
(ordered directly at Neutrik, but they seam to be build on order. at least the version I want)

working on a solution for europe

i wonder if once you have a working prototype it would be cheaper to make the cases somewhere here in the US.. it'd certainly be cheaper just sending the pcb's.

I might have a hookup on a good metal fabricator here in the US. I was talking to an old college friend about a new loudspeaker venture I'm starting and he asked off hand if I needed any metalwork done, which I coincidentally needed. I've sent over my DXFs and talked to him a bit about their capabilities.

They can do anything in any steel thickness or aluminum and can do all the laser cutting, bending, milling, welding etc. It's a pretty big operation, but I'm sure I can get a solid price. They don't, however, do powder coating or any finishing type stuff so we'll have to figure something else out for that.

The only rub is that I'm crazy busy right now, and my cash flow is tied up in prototyping and construction. I'm teaching two recording arts classes, running the studio full time, and trying to get this other speaker company off the ground, so the more help I can get with pre-production, the better. Sounds like a lot of the CAD/DXF files are almost there, so as long as that's solid I can probably get a quote. How many of these are we thinking?

PCBs will be available separately.
the backplane is double sided, 3 mm thick and large ...
do you really think anybody wants to etch this at home, double sided and through plated ?
if somebody wants contact me.

in the meantime I'm working on distribution solutions, like web shops and partners for different continents / countries.

Wow, this is awesome!  I'm thinking this is my next project for sure. (As soon as my La2a is working...p.s. can someone help me? I have a post in the la2a thread)  I was a CNC programer for 5 years.  I can probably get some work done kinda cheap at the shop I worked for.  Stoked.

Neil
