It's just a matter of having a circuit ready to go, in my case. If I were to design a new board/circuit, I think I'd go for the JFE150 SMD JFET, small, current production. Or the dual version of that, which is basically unobtainium in older TH parts (although I do have a bunch of 2SK389 from Toshiba, bought here on the black market, I think).

I like the PEBKAC abbreviation, we see that a lot at work as well
