Hi,
i am searching for a 4 pole/4position rotary switch for a NYDs like summing routing....

Anyone knows a good (because the signal goes through) and cheap one?

Make before break is better, or?

Thanks in advance
Leslie...

I don't know where you are, but in Europe switches like that are quite rare. It would be a lot easier to get a 6-pole 4 position switch (two 4*3 decks). You can get switches like that from RS and Farnell.

Best regards,

Mikkel C. Simonsen

not Lorlins!

I don't like them for any thing but a proto build I would never use them in something I wanted to last and rely on.

How many do u need?

I have some of these funky switches that i used in my summing box:

http://www.groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=820&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15

They are Alps and are 4 pole 6 posistion - but depending on where u attach the connector to the metal base thingy (where all the switch contacts are) you can make them into other min/max posistions - including 4pos :) I used em that way for left-center-right-mute...

Just to be clear - that long strip has a metal band in there that contracts/expands on each switch turn which moves the switch mechanism/contacts in that metal box on the pcb - so signal path is also kept very short. The pinout of the contacts is on a standard 2.54mm grid...

Give us a shout if interested :thumb:

Oh, yes these alps are fine... I need 8 - 16. I don´t know right now....

Are these PCB mounting ones? That would be cool.....

I am in Germany. So Where are you?...

@NYD I will take a look for these Alphas. Thanks, also for your design...

8-16 aint a prob and theyre PCB mounting yes - u can see in the pics pretty clearly no?

I'm in London, England...

Ok, I could take a look in the left side where Londaaaan stands...

Cool, do you want to sell them? Howmany can you sell? Would be very cool....

> searching for a 4 pole/4position rotary switch.... and cheap

4*4="16"

The biggest common switches today are "12":

CONT ROT 1POL 12POS ______ 1*12=12
ROTARY 1P 2-12 POS ______ 1*12=12
ROTARY 2 POLE 6 POS ______ 2*6=12
ROTARY 3 POLE 4 POS ______ 3*4=12
ROTARY 4 POL, 3 POS ______ 4*3=12
RTRY 1POL 12POS SLDR______ 1*12=12
RTRY 2POL 6POS SLDR ______ 2*6=12
RTRY 3POL 4POS SLDR ______ 3*4=12
RTRY 4POL 3POS SLDR ______ 4*3=12
CONT ROT 1POL 12POS ______ 1*12=12

Therefore this is not going to be an easy find. Either expensive (and special-order) or a lucky surplus buy (and this is a good place to hear about such things).

Give me a prize and I tell you how many....
Leslie, which schematic are you looking at? The design idea went through a few iterations...
Oh, I don´t know. This little "LCRsum.pdf" with the ground routing of the unused resistors.
Sometimes you know, what you need, but the "routimg" makes you crazy, so it was a very good help, having this little pdf....

Ok, i will send you a pm for my lucky surplus buy....

Thanks. I ´ve seen this before, but I am using a Zero Ohm Input Summing Amp, so I only need to put the unused to ground. Thats all.
Thanks anyway....
