I have heard good things about some of the more popular E-Gold exchangers. Anyway it might be worth looking into.
40-45USD per wire from US is way too high. Paypal 4% seems out of control for what they are doing.
Some of the gold exchangers don't charge anything. Maybe someone else with experience will add comments?

I have RK310 for the inputs in my D-AOC,
your RK255 (wired 1:1) should work too, might be even a touch better.

however, if you are in France, just use IBAN / SWIFT EUR bank wire transfer.
no costs for you (& me), and you have the advantage of the 2% discount I will give you.

btw, not many ST8458 left - but I ordered the next 50pcs today

looking into xe trade may bear fruit.  if funds are sent via EFT/ACH to xe by the account holder (me) and again from xe to the end recipient (you!), it's apparently free.  if i could afford my eventual order at the present time, i'd happily submit myself for experimentation.

if this is true I will not use PayPal "service" anymore, and delete my account

not sure if you know this ,
but french bank are charging a few euros for IBAN transfer,
like 3 or 4 euros,
so for payment under 80-100 euros, that's 5 to 10% fee ! 
But as a great philosopher said once,
