Not only IYHO.
It's well known that it's more brittle (lack of elasticity that lead provided) and cracks after few years, depending how intensly PCB vibrates.

Humbug. You forgot to also blame lead free solder for causing "tin whiskers" shorting out key circuits in planes, trains, and space ships . . . Now, THAT is a real debate that could rage on for months . . . !

I Move we go down that rabbit hole next ! :) James

Tin plating on components that have undergone leg bending in the manufacture/repair process or undergo mechanical or thermal stress in use can grow whiskers - tin alloys can produce tin whiskers but lead is a known inhibitor if above 3%, some alloys less prone than others.
Metals plated with another metal with a much different coefficient of expansion can cause whiskers of the plating metal due to thermally induced mechanical stress.
Also copper plated with tin or tin alloy can cause whiskers due to migration/diffusion of the copper into the tin.
Zinc galvanised metal (like steel) grows zinc whiskers.

The whiskers can break off and get circulated in the air, migrating and causing havoc in a high airflow environment.

A lot of research into alloys to preclude the occurrence of tin whiskers in lead-free solder has taken place since its forced adoption - but it’s still a rubbish product.

Roll on graphene solder…..

I have four cats at home. Two of them like to come to bed, in the middle of the night, when I'm soundly asleep and curl up lovingly beside our heads. But first they need to sniff (also lovingly and for reasons known to cats only) my face from up close.

I ain't afraid of no tin whiskers...

But if you woke up at night with Salvador Dali tenderly caressing you with his whiskers, would you be afraid?

I think it's because the Iron Curtain is coming back soon, at least partly (read it in the news).

Golly, I wish folks would not politicize the discussion. I come here to escape the odd turns of world events and hide my head in the sand. I know you intend to be funny, but so much of what is going on does not seem funny to me. Just asking as a huge courtesy, nothing more. J
