I am in Istanbul at the moment and having a good time. My buddy is in a partnership with other two friends. They have two record shops, one in the European side and the other in Anatolian side of Istanbul. They took out a stand in the 8th record festival in a suburb called Kadikoy where city council sets up tent kiosks (about 40 of them) and a band stand. Food kiosks, bars and and cafés are also set up. I turned up at the site just before the sun started going down. Here are some pictures. The main purpose of this post is to remind us what we would be missing if we did not have the vinyl. It is not just some plastic. It is a culture, and all the other pleasures that it brings. I also hope that it stimulates you to visit Istanbul. A great city.
This is the security at the entrance. If you were caught with a CD you would possibly be forgiven. But with MP3 you would be in deep trouble.
Shopping bags are supplied to the kiosks free by the city council.
My friends' stand.
Another typical stand.
Sun slowly started going down.
You got your record? Watch the sun going down.
