Also what is too high a d.c resistance considered to be ?
It all depends on the circuit it is in. Very often, LC based EQ's use padding resistors in series with the actual inductances to provide the desired Q.
But if the Q is already too low (too high DCR), there are only two solutions: make another inductance with a larger or higher AL core or accept the fact that instead of +/- 12dB, the range will be +/- 10 or 9...
