Hello, I'm helping a client with a Teac 90-16. The unit has a problem that has developed, it will no longer record or erase. Had previously worked a couple weeks ago.

We've been able to calibrate the repro and sync head outputs with the MRL no problem. But when I've gone to start setting the record bias, the unit will not erase the old material and will not record the input signal.

I'm wondering if it's something to do with the master bias oscillator. I have the physical manual and am trying to track down info from it.

Does anyone have experience working on this machine or solving a similar issue? Any help is appreciated.

Hi, I own this machine and worked on it quite a lot, but this issue I've not come across. A question: does it not record anything at all or do you get a fuzzy almost gated signal off tape after recording? In that case you most likely have a problem with the bias oscillator. Try pushing the input as hard as you can and see if anything at all gets caught on tape. Also, this is happening on all channels, if I understand correctly?

Edit: reread and saw that it doesn't erase. In that case it most likely comes down to the bias oscillator. I would hook an oscilloscope up to the oscillator and see if it sends out a sinewave at all. If not, you know where the problem might be located
