Where is the evidence for this assertion?

There were a variety of sources that reported on it, but one very good video that did a good summary on it.

In short- one of the biggest concerns the community had with Bambu was that a) the log files stored by the machines were encrypted b) Bambu wouldn’t clearly outline what data was in the logfiles and c) in order to get ANY tech support, even for clear hardware issues and warranty, the tech support people required you to upload the log files to them or they would refuse support.

This all seemed concerning and was brought up on a couple of occasions, whereupon the owners asserted that the log files stored data was innocuous, and did not and would never contain things like the Gcode files used for the prints or any other identifying or potentially IP concerning data.

In short- people got suspicious and around a year ago someone was able to break the encryption and look inside a logfile. They found that those logs didn’t just contain the gcode of say the most recent print- but of every print ever made on the printer. Not only that, they discovered that images from the internal camera were ALSO in the logfile- images of completed prints- and because of the angle you could see outside the cabinet and into the room it was in, in one case an image showed a person’s full face.

So not only was all this sensitive data being stored, but the company required you to give it to them before they would provide support, AND they outright lied about it on more than one occasion.

I will look for the one video that gave an excellent summary by the person who was working with the guy who broke the encryption. But this was not secret news and a googling of “Bambu Log files” would probably be enough to find scads of information.

I do not know if they have since change their policies and procedures and/or the content and “security” on their files- but the same people are still in charge and that was egregious enough for me to never give them a cent of my money.

I watched the first part. The issues only relate to Bambu Studio. You can still use your own slicer and load the results to an SD card as before.

If an when I do use Bambu Studio to control my printer via the cloud I am happy that Bambu takes steps to protect my data and my printer from malicious use, and if that means my printer needs a security update, then I will do it just as you would do a Windows security update.

Rossman does tend to get overly excited about minor things.

I am not concerned, and as Ian has stated you can avoid their service and load via SD card if you are worried. I make sure to print naked now and check my prints often - I have moved my printer to waist height as well.

All kidding aside, I just ordered another Bambu P1S and added the AMS system this time. I have found a few more uses for these things around the shop. If the project I am using these for takes off, I am also looking at adding a Qidi Plus 4.
