Hey Neeno

Didnt you use an Epcos core for something that would work in here?

The RS part is actually made by MMG Neosid in the US. Maybe one of our US members could check into these companies?

Sh*t. I can't believe it is so hard to find a universaly available (RS Farnell) ferrite core, that will be available in the long term.

Hey Peter...
What do you mean exactly ?
Actually I'm using some Epcos RM8 cores to make my pultec inductors.
I even tried to make some 1081 inductors, but i didn't tried them yet.

Hi Neeno,

I wanted to download the 553-schematic using the link on one of the first pages of this thread but the file was gone. If someone still has it I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!

Peter

How did the Epcos inductors turn out? Sound good? I think that they might be a good supplier for this type of unit.

I have ordered some Wilco coils to try out, will let everyone know how they turn out.

Hi Peter !
They sounds really good to my ears, and it looks like Mrs. Eve Anna @ Moonley like them a lot.

If you want to give me the coils specifications i can wind some and send them to you. Otherwise i can get some inductor kits and send them over.

Matta is on his way back to SA with some Wilco's clutched in his grimy little paw (or maybe packed into his smart suitcase) but as soon as we have compared the 2 coils, there will be more on this project.

Thanks for being patient about this, I'm also champing at the bit here.

Peter

awesome, good to know you're getting a chance to try the wilcos peter.

i'm really hoping they work out.. would be a great alternative to winding

not that i'm against winding, but... hey.

thanks again for all your hard work on this and the air eq... i've been learning eagle lately, and after MANY hours over the last couple months of strained neck back breaking computer agony, i appreciate it more than ever before!

I made another channel over the weekend to test out the Wilco inductors, but my supplier is out of pots..... I will try & get some more this week from another supplier. PITA!

Check your PM

Peter

Tried the Wilcos versus the home-wound coils & found that the Wilcos were nice, but the home wounds were REALLY nice.....

These are my listening impressions, not very scientific but what I know about the channels.

LF coil:
The Wilcos do the job well, lets clear this up. It just seems that there is more low end with the home wounds. Wind the bass up full with the Wilco channel, to get the same with the home wound I only had to turn it up to 60%.

Mid coil:
There was not much difference between the 2, maybe the home wound was a bit sweeter, but very similar.

I suspect these differences are because of the core size mainly, also to do with the core materials, and the coils resistance.

API got this one right!

something I'm working on..

553opamplabs.jpg

based on peterc's 553 design but using opamp labs 87-1 and 87-2 inductors.
http://www.opamplabs.com/87.htm
LF and MF have 6 freqs each plus off and HF 2 freqs with center off.

More later when I get a chance to hear this guy... Looks great on my
scope.

An update on the PCB's, I have some working units in my lunchbox, busy testing various inductor cores for sound quality.

I am pretty tied up at the mo, will get to the absolute final design in 2 weeks or so.

Apologies again for the delay, there has been quite a bit of interest & they are very cool units.
