Hi Kraftwerk.
I promised to gives my impressions of 1166VT i got some month ago but like always life in the way ( lost a job, found a new one recently,...).
Anyway i eventually got opportunity to compare them to a Vintech 73 and Sowter 8751. As i still don't have mic input iron i did a 283AM and we drived both unit from converters output ( Antelope).
There was a tiny difference between both but both my friend and i think it comes from the Vintech input transformers, mine was driven direct.
The differences between the 8751 and Vintech were more obvious to us but it could had been bias as the comparison was sighted ( no ABX). In the end we concluded they all sound great but with slight differences.

Anyway i am more than happy and the Vintech owner impressed. Both of us had access to original units when we worked in 'big' commercial studios and we agreed the differences ( if not because of biasing) would have been not worst than between two original.

Great sounding transformers.

OT: Kraftwerk apologize for the delay but what i purposed is still ok and now my situation is stabilised it won't take long to happen.

yes, input transformer gave noticeable impact on sound.

Yes, I have fiew Lo1166, they are sounding different, some of them with big differences.
I choose one I like and tune my transformers to have that sound.
Now sound of my transformers is repeatable, matched to one each other,
As i still don't have mic input
soon I will have 3 types Inputs , Line, Micro and one input based on steel core.
Great sounding transformers.
Thanks, Im proud of this product, but main goals go to Cj and this forum.

You decided to make an input transformers eventually!?
Greeaat!
I want more details!
https://groupdiy.com/threads/my-vision-of-marinair-t1454.89727/

I already have lams , wire , bobbins , mumetal stripes, tapes , housings comming wery soon, pcb board is on the way , only waiting for brass holders ,bras screws, thea are custom maded, and crazy expensive.
..and I must oder minimum parts for 100 pcs. So, soon I will have 100 pcs.
..and they will not be cheap,i n fact, Im not making it to be cheap, housing is great - rough powder coat black, 2 shilds of mumetal, copper shields, plus 1mm steel, gold plated pins, brass inside...

TOOL WINDING v21.png
Tool for winding up to 4 pcs at time, i think nice because i like to match pairs.
one more look inside
INPUT TX v68.png

My bad Kraftwerk, i was talking about mic input, i had seen your line in thread already! I am interested in a mic input atm.
Im doing booth, they are very similar, same size laminations, same size box.
One have 80 percent permalloy, another 50 percent permalloy, and different turns number.

The 1802 photos look like a much bigger transformer (at least thicker) than the others, but on the dimension drawings they are all the same. Is this an optical illusion regarding the photos or is there an error on the datasheet for the 1802?

Thanks!

Paul

They are same lamination size EI57 BUT have much more Lam's . 1166 is 20 mm wide , 1802 is 35 mm. 1166 is 56 Lam's thickness 0,35, and 1802 is arround 90 Lam's same thickness 0.35.
And I don't have 1802 3d drawing , so I just change number from 20 to 35, all another is same.

Also, could you post the winding ratio info for the 1802? I would like to know what kind of gain/impedance to expect if I use this with a typical BA283 type circuit.

Thanks!

Paul

They are tippically 500-600, but I made 3 versions, 600-600 and 215 -600 , same is Lo1166. I did that because I replace my lo1166 in 1073 with 215-600 1802. Crazy big sounding. Absolutely love that sound! Not perfectly liner, but Hudge.

So, with 215-600 you can expect exactly the same gain with any lo1166 type transformer, in fact, I matched them EXACTLY the same.

I am also standing by for your 31267 to become available. I am building a number of the Reddish EQs posted here and I was contemplating buying expensive original Marinair/St. Ives but I think I want to give your designs a go.

Thanks!

Paul
