Yesterday after avast updated, my XP PC crashed.  I have been running Avast for some time without problem.  I could bring it up in safe mode.  I ran chkdsk /f nothing found but until I removed avast it would give me what looked like a page file error blue screen was only visible for maybe a sec before rebooting.
I ran chkdsk again and scandisk and no reported issues after removing avast and the PC is running fine

Has anyone else had an issue with avast and XP?
I am not sure what caused the PC to crash what  I did was turn on the PC click on the browser FF to go to the home page and then clicked the blue avast pop to allow the avast update before this happened.  I have never had an issue with it before.

start with CC cleaner, registry section,

then get rid of the virus

then get CCE installed and run Killswitch and Autorun analyzer

then send a log file to Major Geeks after running HijackThis,

then uninstall Avast.

I had the same thing happen with a new version of Zonealarm, and could not resolve it until I uninstalled it in XP safe mode. Same sort of blue screen, and the only way I could read it was to photograph the screen when it flashed up and then read the message from the photo on my other computer. It talked about some kernel error that made little sense anyway - to me, that is. I think I did a system restore to go back to an earlier date, and then completely removed the offending program, and used the inbuilt firewall instead. Not sure what was causing the crash, and have not had any more info on that. Hope that helps.

Kindest regards,
