Just curious of the differences between braided and spiral wrap shielding in cable.  In theory i'm guessing the braided wrap offers superior noise rejection, but does it actually translate in the real world?  Is there an audible difference between the two when used in regular (or non-extreme) applications?

Well 'Steve Lampen' covered the difference in his two books.  He may have touched on it in one of his many Belden Blogs.

Jim Brown probably measured it in one of his cable papers.

Spiral wrap gave hum, braided shielding did not.

Yes,  I had similar things happen here. I also will note spiral wrap shielding can be more microphonic and pick up more of the outside world.

But there is a trade off. It takes longer to make cables with braided shielding as you have to undo the braid a little to be able to solder it. Spiral is ready to go so you work a little faster in that regards.
