Looks like half of a small, simple K67 capsule. Yes using a diaphram on the rear of a cardioid only capsule makes construction much easier.

I noticed it had a different hole pattern than a 67 etc. and it has a plastic rear back plate if I am understanding the write up correctly.

I've been using the C-80 for a few weeks now and it is a very good microphone. Very close to the C100, but quieter. Sony mentions that the capsule is dual-diaphragm to reduce proximity effect, but I don't know if the rear capsule electrically connected. I'll see if I can get some inside shots tomorrow morning. The mic definitely fits the Neumann family sound, with a present and smooth midrange, but open highs and controlled lows. It's a very good mic, especially for the price. My main gripe is that the shockmount doesn't fit in the carry case. Sounds great on singing, voiceover, and acoustic guitar so far. I haven't tried it on other insts yet, but I will hopefully track some trumpet and maybe piano with it shortly.
