Hello all,

Newbie here and to racking too. I have a pair of these modules that came out of an Olympic desk (according to Cyril Jones). Unfortunately Cyril isn't able to help me at present and so Im asking for our help here at this delightful forum.

I will gladly pay someone to give me step by step instructions as to how o rack those for the mic pre and EQ. I'd like to build a 2 channel "micro mixer" and so I'd want to use a pair of the correct P&G faders too.

Can anyone help me for $$???

Many thanks in advance!
Terry

You folks are the best! OK...Im waiting to hear from Cyril Jones re: the schemo...however...a search on Raindirk Seres 3 right here on DIY brings up a series of posts that feature the schematic...

Shall I shoot some pics as well?

More thanks than can be expressed!

okay well first thing you'll need a power supply.

can you read schematics?

looks like your cards require 12vdc I'm guess thats your mains voltage? you have to find the pins on the card that correspond to the ones on the schematic. You should probably print out the schematics.

You should first figure out the current draw of each card and then find a power supply board that has relay, phantom, and 12vdc. mostly likely any power supply you find can handle both cards but you should double check. the current draw go's by adding. lets say its 12mA per card, then you need something that can supply 24mA. The voltage though stays the same. for 2 12vdc cards you need the power supply to put out 12vdc. make sense so far?

btw no cash accepted by me. im glad to share my building problem.

there are multiple voltages required. For there will be phantom(+48VDC) then there is the +12VDC which looks like it's for switching? Then your going to have the voltages to run the ne535 chips which datasheets have them maxing out at +/-18VDC which is most likely what they used.  This is based on the schematics in the other thread.

A lot of great input already. I am so grateful for this forum! I stand to learn so much from you all. I do recall that Cyril told me hat he PSU would have to be 18v plus 42v for phantom.

I am embarrassed to say that I do not read schematics at present. :(

As far as the racking dimensions, these channels are a tad too long for 19" racking, but for me that's no problem; I plan on building a mini-side car using some of the loads of scrap mahogany I have that's left over from my guitar manufacturing.

Ive just compared the pic of the module that appears in the link I posted earlier...my channels are laid-out differently. Mine are also labeled "Series 3 Input Unit Type 1"
I recall that Cyril told me that the Olympic desk was a real early Series 3. Ill email him yet again.

I just found 1/2 of the schematic (my little boy destroyed the other half)....but the pinouts are shown. Can we work with this from here? Here's the first one:

How cool! Great to see that brochure!
Hey...if you look at the schemos I posted earlier, you can see the send/return labeled "Olympic EQ"...the console these modules came out of replaced a Helios (!) but the Olympic engineers wanted to keep the Helios EQ's...and so these were racked above this Raindirk.

Can you post pictures of both the component and track side of the strip and also a close up of the multipin connector?

Glad to and many thanks! You all cannot imagine how grateful that I am for your input!
