Wiring the strip  is pretty straight forward. Everything is all marked well. On the schematics RAINDIRK 1 and RAINDIRK 2 you posted the connections terminated in solid dots refer to the 25 pin edge connector and the hollow dots refer to the 33 pin connector. 

For example, you can see that + - 18V for audio  is on pin 31, 32 AND 33. What you have to pay a particular attention is the ground connections. The ground for the 12V supply will be separate which is clearly indicated on pin 25 as Relay Ground.

However, before everything else you have to get the power supply ready. For this you will need the following voltages;

+ - 18V for audio
+48V for phantom
+12V for switching circuitry and status LEDs

Exact current output requirement on + - 18V obviously is not clear as we do not have info on this,  but we can work it out roughly by counting the number of chips. On the other hand the difference in cost between 500mA and 1A output is not particularly significant for this application. So, I'd knock something out of LM317-337.

I have suitable PSU kits/transformers to serve this perfectly but since I am based in the UK it would be cheaper to obtain it from the US based members. So I'll leave it to the guys at the moment but if nobody else comes forward then I would be happy to help.

I'll certainly be needing help sourcing the PSU...is there a kit I could build  perhaps?

Another part I'll be needing will be a pair of quality 100mm faders. I see some old Neve ones for sale and wonder if they could work.

Sounds like I ought to start working on the mahogany box too! :)

You can  replace the LM317 with TL783 and the caps with 100V rating for + 48.

Few years back my wife's cousin ( who is a master church organ builder) gave me a piece of ebony that would make two fretboards for the possibility of building a guitar one day. After seeing your web site I am sure I should stick to what I am doing now.

I cannot thank you enough, yet again, sir. I am going to order the 3 rail kit right away. I have a tiny whisper fan that I can install to blow over the PSU, and it is very quiet.

Many thanks for your kind comment regarding my work as shown on my new site, however, I say "FIDDLESTICKS" as regards your shying away from building a guitar; it is fun, you can certainly put that ebony to great use. If you have the time to devote to such a project why I say "go for it".

I'll be needing more advice as my little Raindirk project progresses and I do thank you in advance for any help in the near future. It means a lot to me.
 
You are very welcome.

There is certainly no need to install a fan.  But if you really want to have some ventilation then you can have some perforation on the rear panel where the power supply is positioned.

We'll do our best on wiring up the strips. A healthy working power supply is the first step.

I'd love to be able to build an electric guitar but beside the  lack of time, ending up with something that is slightly better than a baseball bat is a real concern.  Safer to save up and buy one of yours.
 
A lot of great music has been made on a guitar that was only "slightly better than a baseball bat" LOL!  ;D

If however you would be interested in owning my work one fine day, I do sell on industry accommodation (Attention all U47 owners! :D)
 
I know it's a bit sacrilegious to chop up old consoles, but… I'd measure the board and see if the channel would fit in a 19" case if you lose the PFL button, Remix switch & lamp.  If so, you could chop the ends off the front panel & mount them, or make up new front panels and store the originals for a day that will never come

A PSU would fit easily into a 1U case with the channels - the boards don't look deep.  If they won't fit in a 2U, put them in a 3U with a cut down panel below with power switch, ins & outs, etc.  Perhaps faders as well...

I'm ready to order the P&G faders for the Raindirks. What value/taper of 100mm faders should I order? The PSU parts are on older and the work on the fancy case (made of old growth Honduran Mahogany) commences very soon too. I'll want to order the fascias for the faders this evening so as to have them in hand for the case work (I'll need to measure them in order to make a router jig need to generate the recess for them). If the old Neves are still for sale I'll grab a pair, if only for the fascias.
 
The sales catalog specified P&G 1120's.  But no specifics on resistance, etc. See the photo.

OK, my handy-dandy PSU kit has arrived for the Raindirks; Ive also heard from Cyril Jones. Cyril discussed a few things; the modules take 16-18 v, 48v, and 12v. Cyril said that I could tap-off the 12v from one of the 18v rails using a 1/2w 5.6v zener diode.
1) Do I "Y-off" the 18v+ out put, sending one leg of that thru that diode and then to the 12v connection on the module?
2) Grounding....do I run every single ground to a single "star ground" point...the ground connections from the modules and the psu?

Rob Harvey here, from World Pro Audio, worldproaudio.com.  How are you getting on with this Raindirk project?    I make this offer: send me 1 module and I'll fit it with a nice , stuffed power supply pcb, get signal through the inputs to the outputs and send it back to you with power supply and info you need to get it all going.  I'll put edge connectors on it labeled with inputs and outputs, power, etc, so by notes and by copying what I've done you'll be up and going with three channels in a jiffy.  Fee will be about $320 plus price of power supply and edge connectors, approximately $100.

(reading through the thread, I'm not sure if you have the entire schematic. please advise)

Do you still offer PSU kits that could fit these specs?
I live in Sweden, and would like to buy from you if you still have something fitting available.
I have 6channels of Series III modules that I hopefully will be able to repair and rack with some help from this forum.
I am good with the solder iron and and can read schematics kind of OK.
However, POWER is something that just scares me. When I build stuff I mostly work on +/- 12V.
