Hello Jeff,

I see from pictures of your VP2X preamps that the DOA sockets are a lot shorter than the ones I always use and see others use as well.
Do you have it soldered a different way maybe? or is it just an optical illusion?

Thanks

mike
Hey Mike,

I insert and solder from the bottom of the PCB. Don't know why. Just because I guess. Dare to be different maybe? ;D

Best, Jeff

Gotcha! cool idea actually. I like the fact that the DOA is not 'floating' as high.. eheh  :p

cheers

Mike,

I'm actually in the process of building up 3 pres for a client. I looked carefully when seating the sockets. I actually like the way they fit from the bottom. Depends on the thru hole size I guess. It also depends on how much clearance you need on the bottom side of the board when it's mounted.

Cheers, Jeff

Hey guys and gals,

I just finished building a pair of pre's for a friend. He wanted a more authentic 312 card instead of the "console" version that is the VP2x. After completing the assembly, I thought I would take a few pics and add the info to my site. It is very easy to do, actually easier than one of my regular VP2x builds. Basically, you just leave off a few components, add 2 jumpers and change the feedback cap value.

That's it! Instant 312...just add milk. I will start including a VP25.312 schemo in the zip with the support docs.

Here's a link to the new page at the site.

FWIW, 3nity is working on a straight up 312 clone that will include a DI with a switch to select Mic/DI. 500 series also.

Cheers all!

Very cool. I assume the same can be done to your VP26 build, just a different output TX...
Correct me if I'm wrong.

You are 100% correct Mike!  ;)

Hello guys,

I wanted to give a little 812d update. So far, so good! I could not be more pleased with their sound, especially when compared to the input side of my board. The mute/solo logic works correctly. That is always a good thing. ;D Also, my insert point PCB's that mount to the under side of the motherboard, which hold 32 of Ed's EA2623-1's work as I expected too.

I changed a few resistor values around the meter buffering amp along with 2 cap values. No biggie. I went with a 47K input impedance on the meter OA. It is a little bizarre how API handled the metering on these boards. Oh well. It all works correctly I suppose.

I think I am going to make one small revision to the PCB before a big run. Currently, there is no allocation for a Direct Out. I am thinking on running a track down to an unused gold finger in case someone wants to add direct outs. This signal is taken from after the 2nd DOA, which is after the channel fader. One would need another 2623-1 to not only balance the signal, but get back up to unity gain. Again, this is precisely how they did it on my desk.

Anyhow, I will post a few pics later in the week. DIY **** is always exciting!

Cheers!
Jeff

Cool,

Yes, I will use direct out , make room for this!  ;)
I dont know how routing (not sends) will be handled with this board,  maybe another pcb to fit pushbuttons group asignments, and molex to 812d card?
Cheers

Holy smokes... got my 2520 boards today (what was that, one day shipping  ;D)
Thanks Jeff!!

Hey thanks guys.  ;) I try my darnedest to not let an order sit for more than 1 day before shipping. I try to think how I like it when I am ordering some fun goodies!  ;D

Consider it done.

It will have to be a Molex jumper. I will make it a 4 pin, .1", 90 degree header. It will be were the silk label is now and point towards the right. So, the buss assign PCB will be above the 812d module. Connection between the 2 boards may be physically challanging but where there'a a will...there's a way. Anyhow, there should be a Pan switch at the bottom of the buss assign pushbuttons. When engaged, the signal coupled to the Odd or Even group busses will follow the Pan control on the 812d. When out, the same signal is sent to all assigned subgroups. Yes, you guessed it. Like on my desk.

Cheers, Jeff

Got my package a few days ago too.
Thanks Jeff, good news about routing assigns! I bet you can do this ok!
I cant wait for this boards!

Cheers.

Hello everyone,

I just received an email from Ed that I have another 100 of his EA2623-1's in the UPS pipeline. I should have them by next Tuesday since Monday is a hollerday here!  ;)

Best regards, Jeff

Good day all,

I have noticed a few threads over at GS in regards to my VP2x preamps.

Mark Linett has has posted some very kind words that make me all warm and fuzzy inside!  ;D 8) :)
First thread in "High End" is here.
Second thread in "So much Gear" is here.

This is very cool to see, especially coming from an engineer with Mark's ears and credentials. Clapton, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Santana, Brian Wilson, The Beach Boys, and on and on...More Mark info is here.

Cheers all, Jeff

I will have to go check out those threads. The **** can be very painful sometimes. Too many ******-bags with matching big mouths. Jeff - I'm in clean-up mode today so I figured I should hit your thread and bump it to the top. Carry on soldier...... DW.

I've received my package a few days ago, clean as usual ! Thanks you Jeff !
I'm working on the housing of the two VP26 in my project, I'll post some pictures when done.  ;)
