Hey folks, been a while since I've posted on this thread.

Lots of things have changed included the all new capi-gear.com website. Stop by and have look around!

I have just posted a banner with my schedule over the Thanksgiving holiday.

Cheers, Jeff :)

So, the silver/blue aluminium knobs you used to sell aren`t available anymore? And the new knobs  you are getting in december won`t be for sale outside kits?

...how do I get Api knobs?  :-\

Yes this is correct. I plan to keep my new style knobs exclusive. Not selling them individually is the only way I can do that. Sorry but I have been forced to learn a few tactics over the last year.  :-[

I think the only way is on the used market. I believe this was the master plan for them.

I just posted my holiday store hours schedule at the store. There are 6 CAPI shopping days left before for the end of this year!!!

Hi Jeff,
Is there any grace period to order some of the old style knobs before you switch to the new style?
I ask because I've been meaning to build a few more VP28s and I'd like to visually match the ones I have.
But nice idea to make custom knobs for your brand!
Also, saw your ad in tape op for a new custom preamp that I don't see on your website (forget the name). What's the eta on that one?
Thanks

The original knobs are a thing of the past for me. I sold 100% of my stock a few months ago. I could not sell them if I had them. As soon as I get the CAPI knobs sent out to all of the folks I owe them to, I will be adding nip-n-tuck kits to the store for all old modules. This will allow folks to upgrade any old module to the all new CAPI look. These kits will include a new faceplate, new knobs and the required inserts. All at a low price to make the upgrade as painless as possible.

But nice idea to make custom knobs for your brand!
Thanks but it was as much of a necessary "reaction" as anything. Funny how things worked out. I could not be more pleased! I much prefer these to the previous ones.

As qmp audio stated, that was for the Heider pre which is an assembled only module. This was and never will be sold as a kit. Currently Rack-N-Roll Audio is the sole reseller for them. I took the listing down from my site until I can get the old artwork updated to reflect the new knobs. 'Chung did the photo work for me and just shot them a few days ago. We have some pics floating around Facebook of them now.

Are there any news about the new EQ's?
(Pictures on your Website...)
Hey Martin, yes those are new rotary graphics. I wasn't sure how I wanted to handle the input stage so I built 2 versions of the same EQ (LC25) to mess around with. One has a 2520 style balanced receiver and the other is more like line mode on the VP28. Right now they are out in LA with Rob Schnapf. So far the unanimous consensus has been the VP28 line mode version. I did not want to come to market with both so wanted to choose the best one. Not only is it the best version but actually "special".

I will have the LC25 and LC40. Both are identical besides different frequency choices. They are +/- 2, 4, 6, 9, 12 with a bonus of -15 cut.

The LC25 is 25, 50, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1.6k, 3.2k, 6.4k and 12.8k

The LC40 is 40, 80, 160, 320, 640, 1.25k, 2.5k, 5k, 10k, 20k

The PCB design and all metalwork is 100% done and ready to roll into production. I am thinking I will wait until after we get moved to Nashville before stocking up on kits. The admin work behind the scenes is large especially with 2 kits. I should be spending all of my spare time getting my sh!t packed and ready to go so that is what I am trying to stick to. We are aiming for a next March move.

Vp28 input stage... I would like to reiterate a point I've made elsewhere that you're a god-damned crack dealer Jeff.  I'd have my house paid off if you didn't exist.

...but please, keep em coming.

I have just added the latest offerings from Gary Barnett to the capi-gear store. That would be his take on the legendary Deane Jensen designed JE-918 opamp. Kits and PCB's are available as well as pre-built by Gary versions. If you like some sheen on the top, he is offering a special built only version using NOS original transistors.

Kits can be found here:
http://capi-gear.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=71_72

And built units can be found here:
http://capi-gear.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=71_207

Good day, Jeff

Good day, Jeff

Awesome! How do they sound?

Hi Blackdawg

I like these guys a lot for summing amps, balanced receivers, line drivers.  One of my beta testers loves these guys
for acoustic guitars.  They are a bit less mid forward than my gar2520s,  a bit more open in the lower mids with a nice
smooth top sheen.  They are clearer sounding than my other products but without the sterility of a 990.  They are yet
another color to the audio palette and have a lot of uses to my ears.

Hope this helps

Awesome! Kind of an in between the 2520 and 990. Very nice! I will probably end up with some at some point. Just put two gar2520s in my new CAPI vp312s.

Thanks for the reply!

Hey Gary or Jeff,

Can those 918's run on +/-24V rails? I'd love to use them in my mixer if possible, but it has 24V rails. . . .

Hello Jeff,

a few questions regarding pots. I am building a DR2402 api based summing mixer, and am looking at different potentiometer options.

I have previously built some neve eq`s using these:
https://www.digikey.no/product-detail/en/91A1A-B24-B18L/91A1A-B24-B18L-ND/2564630

They work nicely, but I am not overly satisfied with the "feel" when turning the potentiometer, as it feels way too light in response. However, the Bourns T-Pad used in your capi 312 kit feels awesome! This is the "feel" I want for (hopefully both) channel volume and pan in my DR2402. So I was wondering how these stack up:

http://capi-gear.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=50_131&products_id=227

and

http://capi-gear.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=50_131&products_id=308

Thanks and all the best,
magnus

Hi Magnus

Both of the those Bourns pots feel nice and much like the Bourns t-pad's. I can also say that the BI pots feel equally as good. Don't let the small size fool you.

BTW, I am fairly low on the 1k Bourns pots and will most likely not be restocking those.

Hope that helps! Cheers  :)

The BI`s are dual`s, so just wire up one side? (still alot cheaper than the bourns option)

Also, how much would 20% tolerance (BI) compare to 10% (Bourns) in a pan circuit? Hard to say without more info? Probalby nothing to worry about?

In other words, is the (pretty big) leap from the BI to Bourns (thinking about the pan-pot now, as there don`t seem to be other options for the 1k log other than the bourns) worth it? I am a poor student budget wise, so anywhere I can save...  8)
