Hey guys!

I found these at Monoprice:

https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=1352

They're  the same as the old data switchers from the 80s and 90s.  I've been wanting to utilize 2 recording systems for 32 IO and switch them so they use the same patch points on our patchbay.

Because these are pin for pin switchers, I'd assume they'd work just fine.  Is there another product that will do what these do?  Is there any reason not to simply use 8 of these?  A sonic interference I'm not aware of?  Grounding issue?  I was thinking of reracking them into a single 2U chassis.

Any help much appreciated!!
Thanks,
Sig

My friend has two switches exactly like the one you linked. He uses them to switch 16 channels of balanced audio from output of his converter to either console inputs or to summing box.
They work great! Switch locks nicely and there hasn't been any issue with contacts ever.
But he had a local tech rewire them since inside they have crappy wiring. So he had replaced wires for something better. Thicker I suppose.

I used a couple of those for a while. They were almost great, but I regularly had issues with signal dropout.  I don't know if it was just a poorly made switch, or if it was old and dirty.

JLM Audio has a set of items for this same purpose, but it's a lot more money and a lot more complicated to assemble.  It's a set of relay switches attached to DB25 connectors, so you can switch everything remotely if you want

What about the Black Box stuff?  Any better quality or same stuff?

Thanks!

Thanks for the tip.
Need to add a Summing mixer to the patchbay but this would be far more sensible. I'll buy one a see if its up to the job.

Yes I can confirm that the wiring inside those boxes is crappy and not shielded. when you open it it's a rats nest inside.

The rotary switch itself is cheap but you are not rotating that all the time, I think it's fine for the task.

You can re-wire the unit but be aware it's tremendous soldering job, and expensive also. Being it your own time or paying someone else to do it, in the end you might as well just buy something more expensive for the task (if available for sale of course)
