Don't know what these things are called and lots of Googling has just made me more confused

Inside the Fatso there are some DIP "plugs" with solder pins which have components soldered between them. I imagine they are used to make plugin modules

They can be seen above the grey ribbon cable at the bottom of the attached image

I think the plugs have tiny turret pins with a slot for the component wire

What are these things called & any links to buy them?

Many thanks

I suppose IC sockets could be used, but you'd probably want the turned-pin kind (as opposed to the cheaper wipe-contact kind).

PS: What d*ckwads, sanding the part numbers off everything...  I've "even" seen that in an Amphion subwoofer.

OK, potentially answering my own question: these seem to be known as DIP headers and are available with coined (?) or forked contacts

Chances of finding these on the Farnell site are about 1 in 1000, so here you go:

data sheet for similar part

Used with a turned IC socket this is probably exactly what I am looking for but any further info & links gratefully received!

Hahaha! They even removed the type numbers from the voltage regulators!  ;D

Not a bad idea considering the modern clone for profit mania.

Are those parts soldered in the sockets? I've also seen it where they are not soldered.

I can imagine that they remove the type numbers from IC's, but the voltage regulators?
It is clear that they are 78xx/79xx types and a voltmeter will will show what should be on the 'xx' position!

Yes, but without their uber-magical quad opamps (TL074, MC33079?) assembled in rainforest fabs by nude virgins, it's never gonna sound the same!.. ::)

[facepalm & sigh]

emt and publison would do that.  then publison would color code the chips with a dab of paint or other marker. Had to have the color code chart to know what it was.
