Maybe this should be in the Backroom....except some of us avoid it because of the SCREAMING political fist-fighting and insult-slinging.

1967(8?) A boy was enamored with Top-40 radio and wanted to have his own station.. Schematics in Popular Electronics and Electronics Illustrated magazines....wow he built a transmitter! He had seen how local DJs did their shows at the Real stations.....they had two turntables, microphone, and tape sources,

Boy found simple passive DIY audio mixer designs in the magazines. Figured out to hack a simple/cheap/battery-powered reel-reel tape machine ( 3" reels which used 1/4" tape) to extract an amplified microphone signal. Mic was from Radio Shack. Boy saved paper route money to buy a second cheapo turntable.....<g>. Two turntables and a Microphone (and a crappy) tape machine... On The Air!!!

Nerd boy told his buddies in the near area to tune to AM 660. Boy actually ended up meeting his 1st girl friend who was a listener.
