I can measure AC in and out of the input transformer. After the the resistors and diodes, on test point F and H there is no AC but there is 650mV DC. On the input pins of the interstage transformer there is 3.6V DC. there is nothing on the output pins of interstage transformer. Are these measurements normal/correct? These measurements are taken with the setting written in the 1st step of calibration with 1 khz sine wave connected to input.

I’m also in the middle of a DR609 build, and I’ve experienced the same problems you did. With my unit it had something to do with a few transistors on the opamp cards that had problems. Be careful to keep the trimpot on the opamp cards all the way down, until the calibration process, or it will run really hot and damage components. I do get signal in and out of the unit now. I couldn’t measure anything at the interstage transformer, might be because the signal is very low there. I started calibrating my unit, and the limiter section is actually working perfectly if I leave the wiring for the compression section unplugged. As soon as I plug in the control B wiring, the reduction meter jumps to -20 db and stays there no matter what I do with the controls. Did you manage to get yours working?

I still have all the problems.
I unplugged everything; A, B and even the opamp. I sill get 14-15V on the meters and no sound on the output. Is there a way to test the opamps? With which transistors did u had problems? How did u check the transistors? Please let me know.
 
Ahh crap I have got R44 shooting out smoke whenever I plug the amp340 in. I've done as suggested, ccw turn on the trimmer installed on the amp340 board (all the way left - maybe I need to bring it up a little??). Or is it a trimmer elsewhere on the board that I need to sort too? Damn I'm all out of 10r resistors now haha

Did you ever find the problem with the R44 resistor going up in smoke? Same issue here. Amp trim fully counter-clockwise, but R44 went up in smoke immediately after plugging in the amp.

Did you ever find the problem with the R44 resistor going up in smoke? Same issue here. Amp trim fully counter-clockwise, but R44 went up in smoke immediately after plugging in the amp.

Thanks mate, yeah that's where i was checking and even though i'd turned the bias down i was getting smoke out of r44, but don't have the same issues when the 340 isn't installed, so need to do a bit of troubleshooting.
Sorry to add to this but I’m in the same boat blowing 44 resistor out. And same diagnosis as well only when the op ano is plugged in. I got this kit from a reverb seller and had no idea about the owner. Unfortunately I’m stumped and could use help. On what this fix for the 44 resistor is.

It's such a problem kit. It's better to follow the original Neve 33609 schematic rather than the one that comes from Tat. Double check your wiring against the original design, his is a mess and a lot of faults (forgot to get notes of each). One thing i remember is my transitors were slightly touching the opamp board and shorting to the ground plane. Make sure the transistors are lifted. Check the amp trim the opposite way that you have it.

Gotcha, I will double check all of this. This kit has definitely been a pain in the butt.. hoping I won’t be disappointed when it’s up and running. Thanks for following up Jase!

DId you ever figure this out? I'm having the same problem. Tried turning RV1 ccw all the way, still the same problem... mini camping fires on R44.
 
Disregarding the issues with intellectual property and ripping other peoples work off (I don't know the chain of events so unsure what the issue was/is and what products, if any, were ripped off)....

I've built two of the DR609 and they've turned out great. I think the total build cost came in around $1400ea including custom front panels. I felt the provided front panels felt a little cheap, and had a screen print oversight where both channels were labeled "Channel 2" Other than that the build went great and they have been happy since I built them about a year and a half ago.

The AMP340 if I remember correctly is just the output opamp stage driving the output transformer. I think it's synonymous with a neve BA340 (or possibly the BA640?)

I'd be happy to help with any questions you have. I think I even still have the mouser carts I built saved if you'd like them, though I can't guarantee it's 100% accurate.... I usually make one or two mistakes based on part size, but nothing that's going to break the bank or be too confusing.

Hi,

I purchased a DR609 and followed the build sheet provided. My problem is R44 keeps burning out on one channel. As a result, I can't verify the bias voltage. I've tried turning RV1 ccw all the way still no fix.

DC Voltages at the AMP340 pin inserts (without the AMP340 inserted) measured from the ground pin I get:
from PSU: +24V/-24V
In+: 0.0mv
In-: 2.2mv
V+: 0.0mv
Out: 2.1mv

Is there an alternate testing location to troubleshoot or how much resistance RV1 should start with to get in the ballpark? I would appreciate any help in getting this expensive paperweight to work.

PS. I'm not an electrical engineer, just a hobbyist.
