I've got a (Siemens) V72, but the choke isn't working anymore. Could I replace it with the one you're using in this project ?!?
You could try to contact http://www.haufe-uebertrager.de/, they might have built the chokes back then and might still be able to make some new ones. I have a vague memory they did some V76 input transformers for me 15 years ago.

Michael

wish that was in english :(

id like to get some of their xformers.

i have a stack of chokes here ,
the lundahl version
sowter and the original ,

you know honestly it's like the

difference between utc and sowter .

IMHO ,

i could run a drum loop through all of them to show the
diffenence if you like.

g.

ps my sowter xformers are on their way to me now .

heres the frequency response and noise tests for the atoms D72:
using gold plated 806 tubes instead of EH ef-86
the transformers are lundahl LL1636 in / LL1578xL

both machines cllibrated to 0 with 1k tone .

finally ! this is what i was looking for ,
had to test and troublshoot for weeks.

i like the lundahls after all .!
i think this looks good enough for me
and sounds great enough .
to goto print.

ill probably combine the sowter foorprints directly
on to this board , insted of manufacturing 2 pcbs.

who likes"93 3oz copper/goldplated pcbs

she's ready to go ....yay
running a small run of 25 at first.

price 90$ as all drip pcbs are.
printtime is 3 weeks.

email for pre-order.
and get ready for the manual from hell.

i need to get tat to design the case !

Looks great as always Greg! Can't wait to see the PCB. Good work man!
So whens the dually available?

Rob

Michael, thanks for the tip about the haufe site ! I remember googling once for a Haufe site, but for some reason their site didn't show up... (?!?!?). Anyhow, I read this whole topic again, to look for the parts needed for the DripV72. Iron, caps, etc....
And guess what ?!? The Sowter choke mentioned is specifically built as replacement for the original Siemens/Tele V72 chokes... I didn't know that Sowter also made replacement trannies for vintage german stuff. Cool !

shes been sent to factory today .

should have the pcbs back in a week .
(delayed one week to compare to the sowters)

so the pcb is being printed with lundahl transformers
they sound great !.

The LL1636 is made with amorphous core material.
as also the transformers are shielded and compact.

the sowters sound great , but are naked and have no shielding .
unfortunatly im having mu metal shield box's created
for the choke / inputx/ output x ....each box is rasing the price,
but wiil have the transformer shielding as the orginal .

these will apprear in the new dual 72 .

already recorded a few vocal tack through the D72.
sounds great, using an akg solid tube direct to sound card.
did come up with the 1uf bass roll off for the unit ,
works great , just enough cutoff for a good vocal recording.

starting the manual , all the tips tricks and mods is enormous.

should take a while ,

ill get on the BOM first .

thsnk you for your patience ,

i just wanted this perfect for your build .\\

g.

sorry for the week delay .

tat is on the cases , so stay tuned.

Simply amazing, email sent!

Anyone doing cases for these yet? Even if it's a blank with all the holes drilled and we can paint/label our own?

Oh also, what's the latest story on the psu?

Do these need to be calibrated at all or is it really just a build? Newb sorry
