I found a cheap switch that might work well for the gain, I got some samples in today and have not built them up with resistors, but they are dual deck, 12pos rotary switches, open frame, MBB.

Mouser PN: 10wr212 3.17$usd

says they are 2 pole and doesn't specify how many decks, but they are really single pole, dual deck. the only thing is that they don't have a stop and they will rotate over 360deg but look easy enough to modify for a stop.

I've been buying the cheapest dual deck 12 pos rotary that i could find previously, a greyhill(also from mouser), @ 18$ a piece. Although these aren't as *nice* as the greyhills they certainly will save you money and allow you to clean/lube also.

The Alpha open-frame rotary switches are nice for the price. I like them better than the plastic Lorlins.

Are you sure about the lack of an end-stop? I bought several of that same part number a while ago and I could have sworn they have a stop. The switches are at home, though, so I can't check them right now.

If you bought more than one, check the others to make sure that you're not looking at one with a damaged or missing end-stop. It's just a little piece of metal, after all.

Minguta: I used greyhill GH7103-ND (digikey) for 18$ a piece. I would seriously look at the Alpha switch. Although the greyhill is a nice looking part, it's an all plastic housing that wouldn't be easy to service in case of wearout. the Alpha feels good and seems of good quality like NYD stated. It's also 1/6th the price..

NYD: These don't have stops but they do have the tabs on the shaft for the stop. It would be easy enough to make a small hole and tap for a 2-56 screw to stop it.

I wish i had found these before spending 75$ for 4 switches. that way i would have only spent 12$ and could have made a few more channels..

Damnit!! You guys are right! I checked mine last night and sure enough, they don't have an endstop. That makes them kind of useless for the application I had in mind unless I can add an endstop.

They really ought to mention that in the product description.

there is a little tab just above the first deck. It doesn't touch anything currently but it seems to be there for a stop. you could probably add one very easily here.
