Front Panel Thickness

Ok i see, i thought maybe steel 2mm would be stronger compared to aluminum 3mm but i guess 1mm difference is more important than material used.

Steel is certainly stronger than Al, but it's almost as flexible. The only way to get rigidity is to have a supporting element. madswitcher's suggestion of gluing it to the back of the front panel is a good DIY workaround. It does not strictly need to be connected to the covers, although it's even sturdier.

Is the cost difference huge? For me it's like just get the thicker panel.

For many projects I have used 4 mm thick (AL) frontpanels. No problem with bending.

As the OP said, the potentiometer bushings are a tad short for 3mm.

Not at all, about 4 bucks. I got the 3mm Aluminum finally. I guess i wont have any issues.
Its for the G9 pre i had built back then in an old damaged cash drawer i had in hand. Now i found a decent 2U rack housing from an old graphic EQ 2U unit for almost nothing so i only need the fron plate.
