Gainclone for a monitor amp?

Is the gainclone the best available DIY option for a near field monitor amp?
I am getting my little home studio up and running again 'cos I am moving to a nice big house...

My current speakers are NS10Ms...
Current Monitor amp is a Samson 170 - but the build quality and it's well known ability to just shut down one channel periodically - makes me think .. mmhh DIY...

So is Gainclone the way to go... or are there other easy built options...

I don't think there's anything around that is as simple and good as the gainclone.. Power amplifiers is no easy diy..

I built a LM3886 based GC as one of my 1st diy projects a while back which I use as me mon amp - still works and sounds pretty damn fine :thumb:
