Thinking about it, AKG actually has grooves in the part of the backplate that overlaps, so it's not fully coupled with the spacer. The air present (dielectric 1) lowers the static capacitance. In my case, having the entire ring in contact over 1mm with Kapton (dielectric 3.4) definitely results in a higher static capacitance.
 
how flat is it. There's a critical flatness to both the plate and the diaphragm's suspension off the plate that need to be met
Hi, regarding your question here, I had the chance to measure the flatness of the backplate with a proper instrument and I found that it is 20um. Is this an acceptable value or is it too high a variation?

It needs to be less than 5um. Get a lapping plate and some slurry and put on a documentary
