Hello All,

I am working for a small console design. I am planning it to be 16 inputs with four buss assignments; I was thinking about implementing Ian's Smart Pan circuit but for this. Is it as simple as just duplicating the assignment switches? Also wondering if feeding the assignment switches from Douglas' active pan would be a good idea to help buffer and drive the busses.

Thanks!

The usual signal flow in a console is PAN then assignment. All the Smart Pan does is route either direct to left, or direct to right, or via the pan, or mute. Following the Pan or Smart Pan, you typically route left to odd buses and right to even bus via assignment switches.

Buffering the Pan does simplify bus driving but it does mean there is can be a permanent noise source added to the bus on assigned but unused channels.

Cheers

Ian
