Lover that Mielke Way! Fast payment! Thank you!

Deja Vu...

Of course the buyer only has themself to blame if they think they are getting an original unit. Granted the description could be more detailed, but it does say 'LA-2A Type compressor' in the title. I don't think we can really be the world's clone police. At least he's not claiming it as his own design and posting a picture from the UA website; the Teletronix logo, however, is questionable.

Just my $.02

I think he could tell clearly that it´s a clone, handbuilt, that it sounds like the original, and that it has the advantage of warranty... what the hell... For 1k, I guess there would be some people interested.

Dang it! Thats one of my T4's in there!
No wait, there isn't any T4!
Roger, is that a vacrtol based unit?
No input transformer either. (or no output, hard to tell from here!)

Looks like the two are different, at least the VU meters indicate so.

I was going to keep my mouth shut regarding cloning and allowing people to register here and all the crap that went down here in the last two weeks blah blah woof woof, but I think I will chime in here now with my opinion.

I think the real problem (regarding this forum, anyway) is not so much that people are out there selling clones of old designs (do NOT get me wrong, it's wrong in many ways, but I mean how the F are we going to stop them all), but about people posting here stating so-in-so is selling a clone on eBay, etc. Let those who are responsible deal with it and keep that crap off this forum. It just gets everyone worked up and then administrators think about resticting the site and all that crap. I know those that say that if it was my design that was getting ripped off then I would feel differently, etc. But if it was my design I think I would at least make an attempt at being responsible and taking the necessary steps required to fight the cloners. There are methods out there for dealing with crap like this. I mean, hell, John Hall, CEO of Rickenbacker holds a pretty tight grip against all those forgers of Rickenbackers and Rickenbacker parts. Try putting up a Rickenfaker on eBay and see how long the auction lasts...

Remember this is just my opinion, I ain't here to start a pissing match. There are other threads for that.

Well, I'm a newbie here and I came in just in time to witness the Gyraf pre on eBay, and frankly I do think that was an entirely different case, and definitely worthy of a discussion here. I mean, the equipment in question was directly ripped off by a moderator of this very forum.

Being the clone police, on the other hand, is not only beyond the mission of this community (as far as I can tell, anyway) but it is simply not a practical use of the creative energy here. I'm totally inspired by this forum and the people in it, and frankly I hope the focus stays where it is.

Just wait til Scenaria gets back home. That guy's middle name is ebay!
I care soooooooo little what these poor guys do to try and make a buck. None of my dang bussiness, if ya knowhatImean...
There are soooooo many things to build and sooooo little time!

(err, so what am i doing here! )

'naut:

It's been discussed already. Done. Move on. Gyraf can deal with it if he wishes, I believe it's the responsibility of the designer/manufacturer to deal with crap like this. It's unfortunate, but it's reality (as wack as it may be) that people steal someone else's design and sell it as their own. I don't think it needs to be dragged out here and cause a whole bunch of commotion to the point that people start thinking we should restrict access here or other insane ideas... ...when it gets to that point it's just gone way past where it should have. Like I said, the problem is more the "clone police" that stir it up and get everyone worked up and then people start thinking about crazy things like access restrictions to all this great wisdom and knowledge, which kinda defeats the purpose of a place like this. We just got here to this forum just three months ago from the old place, I'm getting tired of moving so often with forums these days, it seems.

Again, just my opinion that I am defending, no one needs to get their panties in a twist. To sum up, it sucks, but let's just move on and not focus on crap like this. That's what lawyers do...

CJ: whirred! Exactly how I feel!

f$$king evilbay should get sued too. this really is over the top, i mean, howmany unethical auctions do to have on there per day?

We only seem to monitor what's in our line of concern overthere, but from what i have read the last couple of days

Their policy of paying back an ? % amount in case something goes wrong isn't so waterproof either. Some-one in Belgium did write about it in one of the most popular magazines. He informed them by email about a scam he had been trapped into (as were more ppl) and after multiple remails he even didn't get any reply after 45 days!

I avoid these auctions as if they wore the plague, even if something shows upthere that i really would love to get.
 Typical making fast moneypolicy if you ask me.

just my 0,02 euro, anyone 0,03?

Tony

Isn't that the guy who used to hang out at RO-Tech Talk and pester everyone with loads of questions?

Gee, read his replies to the feedback comments..

>"Left profane feedback -six days after auction ended"
>Reply by rog_machine: "You ship slow. In USA its ok to use profanity. >Called the constitutiion. Grow up"

Just a quick comment on e-bay... yes there are some people trying to scam you, but the majority (or at least the ones I have dealt with...) are decent people. I just got a BK-5 in great condition from there, fair price, etc... With anything like that there is a certain amount of risk, but that's life. Nuff from me.

no he's in lake oswego oregon we should get chuck d and some of our other resident portland area members to go talk  to this bozo

Wilebee

Yes, he lives in Lake Oswego, Oregon few miles from my place. He actually makes pretty good music. I am not sure what got into him that he started selling this stuff. He could have at least change the logo on that box.

Tamas

you Know him ? I'd come down from seattle but I awaiting deliver of a new match pair of kids thats good to know your in the portland area Tamas you we should put up a sign up list of who is where for who ever wants to participate. Wil

Wilebee

No, I do not know Roger, just his music.

Wil, good luck with the twins. I have been hoping for a monthly Portland DIY workshop to exchange parts, building techniques, beer recipes, etc.
it does say 'LA-2A Type compressor'
Actually it says LA2a Type I compressor... Whatever that means.

How the hell does anyone get FIVE negative feedback comments on eBay out of 37, anyway??? Must be a real *******!

Peace,
Al.

thinks its a different unit to the other auction.

he says in the first description:

"The original UTC Vintage A24 and A10 transformers have been used"

but only one transformer in second unit.

to be fair it does look to be built to a very high standard on the outside, but he doesn't include any inside photos which is worriying.

i think scerenata mailed him asking for more photos? guy was abit funny- i think there was a topic about it.
