News just coming through of the death of Jeff Beck , bacterial menigitis .

A close family member passed from bacterial meningitis when I was a kid. It was very much unexpected and swift.

JB was a huge musical influence to me personally (and of course legions of musicians much better than I). Very sorry to hear. I hope he didn't suffer.

Edit: it doesn't sound like he did.
