Greetings everyone, I'm in need of rewinding a power transformer, specifically the Ampex GTC 58-0004, that powers an Ampex 2100 valve suitcase amplifier (quite similar to the more well known 620).

Originally, the transformer operated at american voltage, but it's been rewound twice already, quite badly. The last time it was rewound, unbeknownst to me, it was done so it supported diode rectification. I'm looking for someone that can rewind this correctly to operate as per the original circuit, preferably at european voltage.

Thanks in advance for any leads.

Still looking for a solution, including a new power transformer with the same specs.

That said, if anyone here has an Ampex GTC 58-0004 they're looking to move, I'd be very interested.

Looking at the schematic you could probably use a transformer for a Fender Deluxe type of circuit, with the added bonus you could also use a 5V rectifier tube (5Y3, 5AR4, etc)

I am wondering 40uF may be too much capacitance for the 6AX5 rectifier, as this can lead to catastrophic failures.

I once bought an Ampeg R12 with a factory installed input filter of 60uF which according to the datasheet it was too high for the 5Y3 tube.
The rectifier tube, reservoir capacitor and transformer ht winding were all blown up...

Voltages, current / power rating, mounting style..?
Hi Khron,

here's the specs:

Primary: 230 Vac

Secondary:
3,2+3,2 Vac / 1,4A
6,3 Vac / 1,2A
320+320 Vac / 80 mA

Also attaching a photo with measurments.

Appreciate that, but I'd really prefer to keep it original. If I can't rewind the transformer that's there at the moment and if making a new one doesn't make financial sense, I'll just keep an eye out on ebay and Reverb for the original 110v transformer.

What's the deal with old transformers...Problem is then old enamel are worse than new, and time dont serve them, thats why old transformers are problematic...Maybe better rewound them.
