this is the impression i got as well.  seems like we got 10 pages of color suggestions and "I'm in" posts before anyone ever offered to do anything.

So how to do we all get moving on this ?  Who can tangibize this project into reality? For the sake of repetition I am happy to assist if there is anything I can offer, but am I not sure how this project gets going.

STEP 2: Get the knobs made
STEP 3: Sell them to us at a reasonable price (at cost if possible  )

wasn't it a matter of finding a manufacturer
that could accept the drawing for production ?
or who would make exactly that knob ?
and then how to front the money for the run ?

so the couple of people with knob experience got no
response from the manufacturers and we are in limbo ?

Ok, this is where it stands as far as I can tell from re-reading the thread--

Onlymeeee had gotten a quote (in post #17) from a manufacturer in the UK, and it seemed pretty reasonable. Then he posted (#60) he was going to check on the color matching and would let us know. Since that post, nothing else has been said. I know the holiday season can get a little hectic, so maybe he just hasn't had time-? Pongi (in post #97) also volunteered to organize the buy from Switzerland if Onlymeeee couldn't do it from the UK.

Dustbro also said he was getting a quote in a few days (post #45) and would let us know.

I'm recapping simply to see if we can get something moving on this--I know I'm not the only one anxious to see this get done!!

Sorry, should have stressed more in my post that colour matching would be fine.  Most places prefer it even.
It was meant to be a kind of a 'if you don't hear from me, it's fine'

I think there's some confusion on what the next move is with something like
this.

We're looking around 3 grand to start with.  Now I'm not convinced
that we would raise that between the group (1000 knobs) before the order.

So as someone has said, it's possible to have someone put the money up
get them made, and then charge a bit extra, so they'll def get money back and
maybe a bit more.  BUT then, where does that leave Skylar? He deserves some
too. Does adding a few pound on top put people off?  What's a good amount that's
fair all round? 

I don't mind organizing it. Would have to be after christmas though.

Is this the right way to go about it?

Having looked through the thread numbers I can see just over 200 knobs being
spoken for. (A few 'I'm in' without specific numbers as well though)
So I don't think we can just buy them and split costs between us.  Would
end up too much. 

What does everyone reckon?

I can put 2 grand in. The rest of the money must come from you. That money could come from the 200 "spoken for" knobs.

Allot of back & forth work for someone so it would need to be
organized for them in a managble way

If we get an aprox price and do a preorder
that would add some momentum & enphasis

I'm o.k. to pay upfront  , infact may cause me to overorder
don't know if this will come around again .
and perhaps someone with an e store will take over

Just an exercise: 1000 knobs, U$ 3K for fab, sell for US$ 5 each.

In conditions near that, I will surelly take 50 (assorted colors). And that is only me...

Yep sounds great.  I agree with the sentiment that if we all prepay we may have a propensity to over-order anyway. Especially given how hard it is to find these things we may order more than each of us needs. This sort of buyer excitement may make whoever does the outlay feel more comfortable

I am also happy to pay some extra for Skylar's work, plus whoever's time and outlay to arrange everything.

i 'd like to do an advanced payment of 500usd -> 100 knobs

1: i 'd like that this project is going on fast!

2: do we have an indication that the knobs are of some quality?

3: does the cost of 5usd cover all parts of the knob incl. the metalpart inside?

3: like i suggested i'd like to help or takeover, but its way better, when someone in the same country of the manufacturer does it!
