I'm seeing a lot of threads about mic mods and I'm intrigued. Never done it or even thought it was reasonable for a DIY until I read these posts. My question is this:
I have an ADK A-51s Type IV. It was pretty cheap (like $150 on eBay new), but I really like the way it's performed for the money. On the other hand, I know it could sound even better. Has anyone tried modding one of these mics? And if so, what would be the best thing to do to improve it? I read that the capsule and grill are the biggest factors, but are the electronics in this mic improvable as well?
Another similar question: can this (or any large diaphragm mic) be modded into a tube mic?
