Hi.
Im pulling an allnighter on machine watch tonight at the factory, so I got some time to kill, and I wanna do some soldering on a patchbay. Theres just one thing before I get on it.

The cable has a ground, a clear, and a colored wire. The color varies, but there is a clear wire in all the runs. Which one is most commenly used for hot, and which one for cold ? Im guessing the clear is hot, and the colored is cold ?

And Also Im assuming that the TRS corresponds to XLR like
T= pin2
R= pin 3
S= pin 1

Just making sure really. If It looks like Im right just type yes. :grin:

kewl..
Any standards on the color thing ?

I have some 8 way cables. Each run has 8 clear and 8 wires of different color. Which ones hot hot hot ?

Gustav-

I believe the standard to be colored for hot and clear for cold. That's the way I've always made them, and that's the way I've seen every harness done. Also, the colors on Mogami usually follow the resistor color code in terms of order, so for 8 channels you won't see any repeats but on larger cables they repeat every 9 channels. Makes for easier troubleshooting in tight areas like Elco and DL connectors.

Have fun,

Zach
