Hi

I need to switch between 3 channels/loops in my rig.
The switching has to be momentary footswitches.

Function:

Stomp on channel 1. Ch.1/ON Ch.2/OFF Ch.3/OFF
Stomp on channel 2. Ch.1/OFF Ch.2/ON Ch.3/OFF
Stomp on channel 3. Ch.1/OFF Ch.2/OFF Ch.3/ON

Now, I know how to do this with relays or analog switches......... but I was wondering if there is some special purpose, clever logic IC that has this function built in? Would save me money and trouble.

Some kind of three input/three output exl. device?

Any suggestions are most welcome.

Thanks.

I would use 2 switches. "scroll' and 'select' scroll would provide pulses to a decade counter that has it's outputs each going to an (input set/reset?) of the flipflops."select" would toggle the set of flip-flops that drive relays or whatever

You aren't clear... one button to rotate through three modes, or two buttons to step or or down through three modes, or three buttons to latch one of 3 modes?

Neither sounds very difficult...

I'm pretty sure he meant 3 buttons, one for each latching channel, but would disable the other two simultaneously.

also very interested in this.

Page 3 of this pdf has a schematic (using two logic ICs) which might be what you need: http://www.schematicheaven.com/newamps/soldano_x88r.pdf

Yes, thats what I meant. Sorry if I wasnt clear enough.

Thats what I need. Thanks.

Feel free to post your thoughts and ideas on this.
Im sure there are many ways to solve this.

I made a 3 button, 3 function foot switch for a tape recorder remote back in the '80s. I used some simple CMOS set/reset flip flops to latch the desired logic. You can bus a reset so pushing any button resets all three, than a path where the individual buttons latche the desired FF output.

Any parallel latch with more than 3 lines could be configured to latch individual button presses. I don't know if there are common CMOS parts to do this in one package, a few FF are pretty cheap.

Im not sure how it is implemented, but my Demeter preamp has channel switching with Vactrols, FWIW. I dont think you could use momentaries with them though.

this can be done on the msp430 board I've put together.

In the next few weeks, I'll get 'round to releasing them, as well as the basic code I have running. Modifying to set certain I/O on the 3 GPO will be possible.

stay tuned.

Cheers

Your requirement can be accomplished with a single CMOS 4001 - (search for the Quad 34 pre-amp schematic) - which is available on the Web - although the Soldano/Randall Aiken circuit is fairly simple.

There really ought to be an IC to perform this function - in the past there have been devices from Plessey (ML231 rings a bell?) - but this is really ancient history. There have been others - but is anything modern available now?

we use some sort of a integrated 6-channel television-channel-switcher IC for stuff like speaker select and such. I don't have the number around here (SAJxx? SABxx?) , but it has everything integrated and is easy to use..
