Hey Guys,

I?m starting to put together my parts to build a 1U, single (mono) channel
of the Gyraf Calrec. Has anyone else done so? I would love to see some pics
to get ideas. All the examples I?ve seen (not many) are 2U stereo versions.
Has anyone built a mono into a 1U rack?

Also am a little confused about powering, since the .pdf on Jakob?s site
says it runs on 18V, but then his PSU board is for 15V? Will it run on
either? If you run at 15V do you need to change any on board parts to
accommodate for the lower V?

Thanks

Matt

15V 0r 18V dosen't do any difference. 18 gives a tiny bit more headroom, but too small to really matter. Just use whatever transformer you have - or that you can source easily.

I'm not aware if any pics of 1u-case mono Calreq's..

One coming (it's taken for ever) - but it is a HALF width 1RU case - mounted vertically
I am having some white transfer lettering made up for the dials and stuff because Seno has stopped making white transfer dials..
It's currently Metalic Purple (Ford car colour)
Am awaiting Grey Sifam knobs - 21mm for the dB, 15mm for the frequency change
It also has illuminated pushbuttons for the Q, HPF,LPF and EQ in switches Can't decide what colour red or green or blue to go with purple
I think I might use Green for EQ in (I don't use the bi colour LED on the board)
Blue for Q
And Red for HPF and LPF

Hey Jakob!

Thanks for answering the PSU question. I think I might use a 15V PSU, but if I rack into the 1U I might just make a new PSU at 18V.

I assume there is no reason why you couldn't build it into a 1U rack, it would fit. I guess most people just build a stereo for stereo mixing. So maybe I'll be the first to build it into a 1U ;-) (Okay so uk beat me... let see who is done first... LOL)

Cheers

Don;t hold your breath on my account...
I am currently managing about 30 mins of actual DIY a week...
(children, wife, working in another country during the week etc...)

Truth be told my hands on DIY is even less than yours right now. Mine is
more theoretical as I?m waiting on boards and more parts... plus a wife who
has regrets she bought me my iron ;-) I need to be careful, so we might both
be hobbling towards the finish line ;-)

Cheers

Just a quick Opamp question. I can?t find a plain LM833, but an LM833N does
it matter? As long as the package is Dip8 will I be okay. In fact even the
NE5532 also has an N. What does the N stand for?

Thanks

Matt

NE5532N/LM833N
N = 8pin dip

NE5532AN
A = low noise
N = 8pin dip

LM833D
D = SM

I did a one-channel Clarec in the budget line (shallow) Middle Atlantic chassis and it all worked out great. PM me if you want any pictures.
