Hi there,

first of, im not sure its the good place to post this... i'll be glad to move the thread if needed...

So i am looking to get some informations on the sync option of those sound followers, MWA MB51s
The card itself is apparently called WCD, but can't find so much infos about it and no sources..
I'd appreciate any lead, as the MWA support team is not really supporting...
Thanks for your time and have a lovely day!

Hello f.aiseur,

Albrecht MB51were the best quality dubbers ever built for film sound.
We had these in the film mixing studio I worked in the 80's.

When you write " sync option " what type of sync are you thinking of ? :
Biphase ? Piloton ? Mains ?

What do you want to do with this MB51 ?
Playback archives sound reels in sync with picture ?

I'm pretty sure that there are some (old) folks around dubbing film stages in Germany that can help you.
Bavaria Films is the place I would suggest you to call.

Best,
Guy

Hi Guy, thanks for this contact, will call them next week!
Yes, MB51s are wonderfull machines but hard to get some parts/infos/support for it those days!
I work at national film archive in Czech Republic, we have two of them : one for magnetic 16/17,5/35mm and the other for optical sound tracks.
So far we were doing our transfers only with MAINS sync, but we see the limitation of it now, and we need to get our hands on this WDC card to be able to use external sync (biphase) so our audio transfers will be synced with film transfers.

Hi f.aiseur,
Yes, MB51 was a great dubber.
Very well built, reliable, and in case of issues easy to fix. Modular design.
It looks like your MB51 cannot accept Biphase, and you need this WDC card, right ?
I thought Biphase was standard from the factory on every machine.
I am pretty sure you'll find your answers and solutions in Germany, calling the Tech. Dept of Film dubbing / mixing stages for help, where an old tech ( like me ! ) will be happy to help you, knowing all the inside/outside of the MB51 ! :)
Good luck for your find.
Best,
Guy
