The AI trains with huge amounts of photos, images, graphics, logos, illustrations, etc. Everything you feed it is processed and evaluated, even with human help.

The text parameterization is done with ordinary language and a few commands like here:

/imagine an interior with wide windows covered with transparent cream-colored curtains, with a white stretch ceiling with a slight reflective effect, on which black tracking-type lamps are placed, a floor of white glossy marble with brown stains reflecting modern kitchen furniture with white straight facades, framed Graphite effect edging around the perimeter and wood look top with morerono oak structure, ultra detailed, ultra realistic, colorful, volumetric lighting, digital art, octane rendering, 4k, unreal engine, --ar 3:2

It doesn't have to be that elaborate, but it can be.

"ultra detailed, ultra realistic, colorful, volumetric lighting, digital art, octane rendering, 4k, unreal engine, --ar 3:2"

These are instructions about style, quality, resolution and aspect ratio.

Smartist(TM) is a good job title for the human midjourney copywriter, at least until they are replaced by another AI like ChatGPT.:devilish:

So could I, for instance, feed it a front panel layout plus some words like music, warm, vacuum, (etc) and it will return a nice artistic version of my front panel??

Cheers

A few days ago i tried ChatGPT, very impressive. It was able to write some arduino code, and refine it based on the error messages till it worked. Really nice! Anyone wanna bet how long it will take till there's a text-to-pcb-design-gerber AI?

Oh dear I am stuffed. I just discovered to use midjourney you have to have a discord account. However, I tried to sign up for discord ages ago but it did not work. Every time I try to claim my account it says email already registered. I tried deleting the account but that did not work. IMHO discord is too complex for its own good.

Edit: OK, so I cracked that and I can now log in to my discord account but midjourney says "Select the Midjourney Bot from the User List, and then click "Add to Server" and I don't have a User List anywhere.

Edit: OK, cracked that one by searching for the midjourney server and joining it. Still no idea how to actually get it top do anything.

OK, as far as I can tell you can only input words - not much use oif you want to 'artify' a front panel.

Cheers

I spent 5 minutes trying to try it out too. It seems like it is down at the moment.
If you are added to midjourney and in discord, just click on the midjourney sailboat on the upper left, then click into one of the newbie chat rooms in the list on the lefthand side.
type /imagine and then any string of words.
You are typing into a public kind of forum I think, it is not a private interaction to try it. Strangely.

It was pretty convoluted trying to figure it out. Everything with some of the new social medai / SaaS is trying to force more engagement on their terms.

Don't despair, help is near!:geek:

Yes, that's right, you need a Discord account. Actually, midjouney is controlled in a Discord Channel! Don't ask me why...
As mentioned before, it's best to watch a YouTube video on how to set up midjourney. Then it's relatively easy.

If things go well you will end up here, where you have to enter a Newcomer Room by clicking! I am in Room newbies-50 here.

Then type /imagine at the bottom of the prompt window, this will cause the empty command /imagine to appear and you then simply write what you want. Say for example

/imagine prompt a Icebear is drinking tea at the swimming pool

Then the system starts to work, your entry is scrolled away to the top, which is totally stupid. You have to keep an eye on it, it's highlighted in a yellowisch colour. After about a minute the picture is ready.

OK, understood, but the input is only words??

I am on newvbies-38. I finally got the command right, the input scrolled away as you said it was and I cannot find it again - there are thousands on there.

All I can say at the moment is, I think it will work. There is a function called image promting. You can upload you own image to start from with midjouney. This is typically used to use your own photo or celebrity photos as a starting point for editing. That could work. We are simply the first to think about such an application. The only thing that helps is to try it out.

OK, it worked for me.
Pretty cool, but what an insane interface
I think not being a gamer is starting to cause me to fracture with some of this stuff

This is the result for "front panel design for tube microphone preamplifier"

I also had this problem at first. Scroll down to the bottom with the sidebar and slowly work your way up...LOL

I've tried pushing the U1 V1 buttons but I don't know what they do? Nothing happens?
Here we are again with the "great" interface. The system immediately starts recalculating at the bottom of the scroll bar a new picture.

V selects the version you want to develop further.
U stands for "upscaling"

Maybe you also have to press the repeat button with the two arrows, not sure. My account is used up, can't test right now.

oh jeeze, I see what you mean. Way down the scroll there are tons of iterations of my pictures as I dumbly was hitting U and V buttons.
This is kind of dystopian. Weird to start seeing weird scifi stuff in real life.
