My guess is that the DXF exported from FPD is in AutoCAD 2010 format, which would explain why AutoCAD 2008 cannot open the file.
This is just speculation though.

Why not send them an email with your bug report?
It's obviously not user error.

i tried opening DXF files (exported from FPD 4.0 MAC) in adobe illustrator (version 10? not the latest...) and everything seems to work fine.

seems to suggest it isn't a "new file format" problem - as my version of illustrator is at least 4-5 years old!

sorry to hear about your autocad problems! i don't have autocad to try unfortunately....

Just had a play and noticed that they offer powder coating now.
Cool!
Anyone tried it?

I keep having a problem with my mac version where it quits after freezing up, when i restart FPD it say's: "DELETED STALE LOCK FILE USERS/USER/FrontDesign"

Has anyone else have this issue? So far if i trash that file in the location it will allow me to re-open FPD but it sometimes ruins the file i was working on....

mpc3k - i've been using it all week and i haven't encountered that particular problem.

i DO have a few bugs of my own:

a) changing the user grid - you have to click "OK" several times to get the dialog box to go away - i just keeps poping back up... no biggie.

b) the ordering stuff doesn't seem to work at all...! i guess i'll have to email my FPD files to them manually.

DELETED STALE LOCK FILE USERS/USER/FrontDesign

Yeah i got that too, a file was created in the root of my user directory.
Deleted it and it seems to work ok now.

I'm using the ppc version on Leopard.

EEEEEEDIT : No it doesn't work ok, keeps crashing. boo

WHat it could be is that this software was released far too soon and is chock full of bugs!

I got a response from shaeffer saying that the ONLY dxf test they did was in their milling software...no autocad, no nothing...

understandable. But if it works for others and not me there has to be something causing it...

bummer dudes...

seems to be working (95% functional as far as i can tell) here on my white intel macbook 2.16GHz, running 10.5.8

the only two bugs i've personally come across so far are listed above - neither of which are show stoppers for me.

i guess i got lucky. hopefully they make a version that works for everyone soon!

maybe we should point them to this thread? or post our results on their forum (probably the right place...)

from the Schaeffer forum :
Hi everyone,

Regarding the DXF export problem, I guess I found the problem. Unfortunately we don't use AutoCAD by ourself, so I would like to ask if someone could help me to check it. Could you please open a dxf file in a text editor and replace all "Reference points" with "Reference_points"? And then try to open it with AutoCAD again.

Thank you,
Kai Schaeffer

Hi All,
I make the modification
the result is :
with autocad 2009 is work , i have send the file to my friends that use autocad 2006 and  wait for an answer
Fabio

tedious as hell, but it works in 2008, and 2010.

However, if you have M$ word, you can use the replace command to auto replace all instances of Reference points with Reference_points in seconds.

From the schaeffer forum :

OK, great. So the reason is that there is a space in this layer name which seems to be invalid. It will be fixed in the next release by the end of the month.

Thank you for your help.

Best regards,
Kai Schaeffer
