The new frontpaneldesigner is out now!

http://www.schaeffer-apparatebau.de/dmdocuments/FPD33.EXE

Version 3.3 of the Front Panel Designer can now be downloaded.

List of changes in version 3.3 compared with version 3.2:

* REVISED: Our prices have changed. In addition to the prices of the front panels themselves, we have also revised our shipping charges. We were able to generally lower these charges. In particular, shipping to EU countries is now a lot cheaper. Caution: From now on the only valid prices are in the new version of the software.
* REVISED: The ordering program now calculates the shipping charges for almost all European countries.
* EXTENDED: French may now be selected in addition to English and German.
* EXTENDED: Clear or red perspex is now available as a material.
* NEW: Function to insert a curved slot. Circular slots can be created with this function, e.g. for ventilator openings.
* EXTENDED: It is now possible to enter an angle size in both the left and the right sides of the rectangle in rectangular thru-holes. In this way the rectangle can be changed into a trapezoid or a triangle.
* NEW: There is now a universal editor for the element properties. This can be displayed permanently and the properties of several elements changed at the same time.
* NEW: There is now a mirror function for elements.
* EXTENDED: Cavities and countersunk holes can now be positioned on the reverse side. This saves you the necessity of creating a second file for processing the reverse side, while making it simpler and cheaper.
* REVISED: The price is now also calculated correctly when the Front Panel Designer is run under Linux using Wine. Caution: For this to function correctly the "Windows" option must be set to nt40,win2k or winxp in the "version" section of the Wine configuration file.
* EXTENDED: HPGL engravings can now be mirrored.
* EXTENDED: You can now print to a file.
* EXTENDED: .bak files are now created when saving.
* REVISED: The "Undo" function now works after inserting items from the clipboard.
* REVISED: The program checks whether the same elements are already present at the same place when inserting from the clipboard. The new elements are then staggered a little as they are inserted.

Besides the advantage of higher prices... :? The Circular slot function is cool, so you could try to make VU cutouts like the vox_box.
Of Germany had actually out-played most powerful trade union its maps skillfully. Owing to the world-wide steel boom this branch of industry is in the German restaurant landscape at present like that something like an island of the blessed ones.
Of sequence words most coldly when moved sound. Our glorious dominion forward marches as to the ends of the earth boundaries stretch.

Legion, for we are many.

Yes. The steel industry has made huge profits recently, much against the general trend, so it's just ok to at least pass on a tiny bit of this to the workers.

BTW, I was curious to see how much the price change actually is, so I re-calculated my biggest front panel with the new software. This is the panel:

price in V.3.2: EUR 527.59
price in V.3.3: EUR 566.07

Cool, but it looks like Front Panel Express USA hasn't released version 3.3 yet.

I requested a new feature that I think would be extremely useful. I'd like to add informational "hyper" text and graphics to my panel designs - similar to reference points. These would be drawn in the same way as engraving objects, but they would not actually appear on the final piece. They would simply be there to indicate component positions (PCBs, connectors, transformers, etc.) and other information.

If anyone else likes this idea, maybe you could drop them a request as well.

Thomas
