Okay....

Am I the only one who has spotted the this pic on the jlmsite and wondering what it is:

Micro1290hasm.jpg

And Kev's page has this pic....

JLM1290_and.jpg

Me thinks Joe is up to something...

Kev says this...

Just a little teaser of some of the things you may see here in the future.
The one on the right has 3 gain stages and a power stage and my show a
common lineage to a famous vintage unit. The one on the left is equally famous
but you will never guess.

Spill the beans.... what these pres??? Are they going to be availble in kit form?

I am waiting with baited breath.

Cheers

Matt

the one in joe's hand is similar to a 1090, there was a post about this recently buried in a thread, I cant remember which.

Yup a three stage N*E*V*E and the other is based on the design of a certain three letter company, that we should not talk about here. I have talked to Joe about these. The 1290 is being sold as two channel racks by JLM currently. We may see kits one day down the road.

As for the other one it's available in a similar package from JLM. No plans for kits though. Please don't talk more about what it's based on. Joe doesn't need that kind of attention. Just be cool.

If you NEED to know more, email Joe. He's great at responding to any questions you may have. Just realize he's a busy man and it may take a couple days.

Yes, the one if the first pic IS a miniaturized N E V E 1290 (aka the preamp section of a 1063) minus trafos. He uses a TIP3055 instead of the 2N3055 in TO-3 case and does some clever things with the switching and other parts of the circuit to save space. Ingenius! JLM Audio already made input and output transformers that one can substitute in a N E V E circuit so it only makes sense that they now build the rest of it too.

No. Joe first mentioned it back in December.

Hmm, thanks for the input and pointing that all out. I saw his Joe's post you pointed to and it says

"While we are on the subject below are our new 1.6" wide x 1" high BAX83NV & BAX83AM modules. They 0.1" pin spacing so can be mounted on Veroboard. These are going on a new module that will look a bit like our 1272 to 1073 module but will be a complete 1290,1064,1073 mic pre that will fit in the palm off your hand (1.7"wide x 3.4" long x 1.4" high and just need the in & out transformer wired to it. Not sure if it will be fully built or as a kit yet. Will see where demand takes us. "

Well do you think we could generate some demand? Would anyone be keen on building these? Obviously it comes down to price as well, I think there is less on them compared to the 99 he does, so maybe they are cheaper?

Cheers

I would love to see them as kits too, even just the NV and AM cards alone to use for ones own applications. However, I'm afraid I wouldn't buy any since I've already invested so much in making my own N*eve stuff and am using Joe's transformers.

Depending on price, two of those things racked by JLM could totally kill a number of the other 1272 and 1290 type producs on the market. It is too bad that inferior products like the Vintech Dual 72 are getting so much business instead. Again, even if I never bought one I'd be really happy to see the JLM units sell.

nuh
that aint gonna happen
I've already over stepped the mark by leaking the picture so no more comment from me.

it does go to show that Joe always has something on the burner and is still a " Friend of Group DIY "
:green:
and if I get my way he'll be a very good friend to the the DIY Factory.
shameful smug mode

whether the unit in question appears as a JLM product or a DIY project is all in Joe's hands and currently has no timeframe so don't hold your breath.

Just keep tuned to Joe's web pages and keep you eyes open for the the release of the DIYF projects pages.

JLM Audio - there is no substitute
shameful, shameful plug Kev
